Race has been postponed until October 22nd.
9/30/2022 – Oktoberfest Race Postponement Options
The 2022 Oktoberfest Half Marathon and 5K has been moved to October 22, 2022. If you plan to run on that day, you do not need to do anything or take the action below. You are automatically registered for that race.
If you are unable to or choose not to run on 10/22/22 then you must fill out and submit this form: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSe16LqDu4S_hojUsrvCHK5D-S-F-IlU9moTnyX8U3XNYdBf_w/viewform?usp=sf_link
There are three options. You can:
- Become a virtual racer. Medal, t-shirt, etc will be mailed to you at no cost.
- Defer to the 2023 race. We can’t wait to race with you! We’ll send your code as soon as registration opens for 2023.
- Request a refund of a portion of your entry fee. We may be able to offer a full or partial refund of at least 50% on a case by case basis beginning immediately after 10/22/2022.
We have been tracking the path and impact of Category 5 Hurricane Ian. All current projections show the storm heading straight for Western North Carolina, with a 50% chance of 4 – 8 inches of rain or higher and high winds.
As race directors, we are generally fine with a bit of rain even though working and running in the rain isn’t very fun. The projected amount due to Ian, however, is excessive and will, in all probability, lead to widespread flooding of the greenways along the French Broad River. Half of our course may be underwater. And high winds never go well with big trees like those throughout our course.
Because of this, the City of Asheville has, thankfully, allowed us to postpone the race to October 22nd instead of making us cancel it. We know this isn’t optimal, but weather events like this never are.
The Half Marathon will start at 7:30am, with the 5k starting at 7:45am. There will be slight adjusts to the courses.
